I am so excited to share Sara and Shawn’s gorgeous fall mountain wedding with you guys today! They were married at Brother’s Cove Resort just outside of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Gatlinburg holds a special place in my heart because my family takes trips there every year and my husband and I spent part of our honeymoon there.
Sara was referred to me by one of my middle school friends (thanks Ashley) and I knew when I met with Sara and Shawn for first time that we were going to have so much fun on their wedding day!
Sara and Shawn rented out a huge cabin where they got ready and most of their wedding guests stayed there as well. I started off the day by taking Sara’s dress and detail photos on the upper deck of the cabin with the most gorgeous mountain view! I really could have stayed in that spot all day, it was so peaceful and perfect!
I asked Sara about her dress and what drew her to it she said “I really had a hard time making up my mind on a style. At first, I was into no poof, no strapless, and was really into the open back dresses. I saw a picture of a bride in a flannel and I decided I had to have that because flannel is our thing! I started recreating the look and after everyone got sick of me searching David’s Bridal got a new selection of dresses and I found the one I wanted. I tried on three different flannels over it to make sure it was THE ONE.”
Once I went back inside, Sara’s hair and makeup preparations were in full swing and Shawn was just starting to get ready. I love that Shawn’s son helped him tie his tie and get ready, it was so sweet! Shawn and Sara got ready right next door to each other, but waited until their first look to actually see each other. Shawn said he could hear Sara getting ready in the room next door and it was one of his favorite parts of the day.
Sara and Shawn’s first look was one of the sweetest and most emotional first looks I’ve ever seen. Shawn was tearing up just waiting for Sara to walk up and tap him on the shoulder. I am getting chills and tearing up just thinking about it. You could tell in that moment just how happy they were to be joining together as one.
I asked Sara if they were happy that they chose to do a first look and she said: “YES!! I wouldn’t have done it any other way. I don’t think I could have walked down the aisle without a first look due to my anxiety. I also think Shawn’s relieved that he got to break down in a private setting instead of at the gazebo.”
We made our way back up the mountain to their ceremony site. Their ceremony overlooked the stunning mountains that were brimming with fall foliage! Their ceremony was filled with even more sweet moments and happy tears.
I had such a great time taking their portraits after the ceremony. Sara and Shawn did not have a formal wedding party, but all of their close friends and family joined them for photos post-ceremony. Everyone was so nice and welcoming and you could tell just how much they loved Sara and Shawn.
For their reception Sara and Shawn chose to do something totally awesome, we headed over to The Island in Pigeon Forge and they had a moonshine tasting at Ole Smoky Moonshine! Sara and Shawn both said that the moonshine tasting was one of the highlights of the day for them because “it added a unique, relaxed touch to the whole wedding.”
So enough chat, let’s get to the photos! Sara and Shawn thank you so much for allowing me to capture your wedding day!
